Ask an Atheist
Want to learn more about secularism or atheism from those who identify as such? Secular Students at Iowa (SecSI) is hosting an Ask an Atheist table on Monday, April 23rd, and Tuesday, April 24th, both from 12pm-4pm, to dispel myths regarding atheism, answer any questions on a variety of topics, and to let others know about our student organization! We encourage students, community members, and all curious passers-by of any religious affiliation to come chat with us about anything you'd like! We hope to see you on the Clinton Street side of the Pentacrest!
SecSI meets every Tuesday at 7:00 PM in River Room 1 at the IMU we will meet for games, debates, guest speakers, and friendly discussion generally focused on spiritual or political topics. We strive to provide a welcoming, engaging and productive community for all of our members, regardless of their religious affiliation, and support open-mindedness and critical thinking at all meetings and events. We were founded on four core principles; Advocacy, Community, Education, and Service, which is the official way of saying we learn, teach, volunteer, and play. We're affiliated with the Secular Student Alliance, a national network of high-school and university student organizations passionate about creating strong non-religious communities. Some notable leaders of the SSA include Hemant Mehta (The Friendly Atheist), Biologist Richard Dawkins, and Reporter and Author Christopher Hitchens.
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact Kennisha Entsminger in advance at firstname.lastname@example.org.
