BGC: International Students and Employment in the U.S.

Thursday, April 19, 2018 - 9:30am to 11:30am
International Commons (Room 1117) University Capitol Centre
200 South Capitol Street
Iowa City, IA 52240

International students in F-1 and J-1 visa status must adhere to strict regulations and procedures for obtaining internships and employment in the United States. This session is designed to provide faculty and staff a basic understanding of immigration related-issues to make informed administrative decisions, learn how the Pomerantz Career Center supports international students’ career development, and create a foundation for partnering efficiently and effectively with International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).

Participants may take courses individually, without working toward a certificate. Successful fulfillment of the Building Our Global Community certificate requires completion of one required core course and four elective courses. All courses taken for the program are free of charge to participants.

UI faculty and staff can sign up online through Employee Self-Service under the “Personal” tab in My Training; search for courses listed with BGC in the course title.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact Brandon Paulson in advance at (319) 335-0335.
