BGC/BUILD: Including International Students
This session will present research on experiences of international undergraduates at UI and identify strategies for creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for international students. As a result of the session, participants will (a) be able to identify experiences and perceptions that are common to both international and domestic students, (b) understand some of the unique challenges faced by international students, especially those who are not native speakers of English, and (c) develop strategies for identifying and addressing obstacles that limit international student belonging and engagement in the campus community.
This course is a eligible for Building Our Global Community (BGC) and Building University of Iowa Leadership for Diversity (BUILD) credit. These certificate programs give UI faculty and staff the opportunity to gain strategic knowledge and skills to contribute to an inclusive and intercultural campus.
Sign-up is available for employees through Employee Self-Service/My Training. To locate certificate courses search for "BGC," “BUILD,” “NCBI,” and “Safe Zone” and a list of eligible courses will appear.
