What does it mean to be a first-generation student? What does it mean to be a trailblazer in a post-secondary institution? “I’m First” is the first first-generation summit hosted on the University of Iowa campus. The purpose of this event is to increase support and outreach for first-generation students on the UI campus. The summit aims to not only increase awareness about the 24 percent of undergraduate first-generation students attending the University of Iowa but also identify and connect first-generation students to resources that can support their student success during their time on campus. “I’m First” is an opportunity for our community to learn about first-generation student’s trailblazing experiences in navigating college as well as provide a space for networking, mentorship, and connection.
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact Tristan Schmidt in advance at email@example.com or 319-335-3860.
