Registration Live through May 18 to take part in UI Pride during Iowa City Pride Festival

Monday, June 18, 2018 (All day)

The Iowa City Pride Parade, part of the annual week-long LGBTQ festival hosted in downtown Iowa City, will take place on Saturday, June 16, 2018.

The University of Iowa invites all faculty, staff, and students to be a part of the parade as a visual recognition in honor of its LGBTQ+ members and the valuable contributions they have brought towards the success of the institution.  Whether you are a member of student organizations, committees, causes, workgroups, teams, programs, etc., who are working towards a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ people, or simply want others to know you are a UI-affiliated LGBTQ+ member or ally, the University of Iowa hopes you will join us in this historical moment of solidarity.

This year, the University of Iowa is an official titanium-level sponsor for the Iowa City Pride Festival.

An initiative tri-funded by the Office of the President, the Chief Diversity Office, and University Human Resources, UI Pride operates through a committee-driven model, led by Candace Peters (Organizational Effectiveness, UI Human Resources) and Dana Dominguez (Diversity Resources Team, UI Chief Diversity Office). Members of the committee were appointed at the beginning of the year and include representatives from the Office of the President, Equal Opportunity and Diversity, the Women’s Resource and Action Center, the LGBTQ Resource Center, the Center for Diversity and Enrichment, and the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership.

The charge – increase the visual support and presence of the University of Iowa during LGBTQ Iowa City Pride.

Throughout the year, the UI Pride Committee has been working diligently to come up with how to best represent that.

The vision – a grandeur float, designed and assembled by creative UI volunteers, names held high of the many campus-wide LGBTQ+ programs and organizations in operation, upbeat music, and a wave of Hawkeyes parading in unity, dressed in Iowa pride t-shirts.

T-shirts will be given to volunteers helping with the planning and creation of parade materials and to parade walkers on a first come, first serve basis, until gone.

Members and alumni of the University of Iowa who would like to participate should register by May 18.
