UI Through My Eyes: A Showcase
Alpha Kappa Delta Phi International Sorority, Inc., in collaboration with the University of Iowa Students for Human Rights and the National Residence Hall Honorary, will be hosting UI Through My Eyes: A Showcase. The event will consist of individual and small group performances that are representative of a culture to which they belong, interspersed with brief presentations from guest speakers on topics revolving around identity, intersectionality, and inclusion. There will be a period in which attendees can browse the culturally representative materials (art, clothing, traditions, etc.) that tabling communities have brought, and speak to them about the culture they are representing. During tabling time, there will also be cultural activity booths (like henna) and an interactive philanthropy event (assemblage of hygiene kits) benefiting The Crisis Center. Members of the UI campus community and surrounding general Iowa City community are welcome to participate and attend.
This event will be an extension of aKDPHi's social media campaign (UIThroughMyEyes on Instagram). We hope to expand upon the audience’s definition of “culture,” and raise awareness for all cultures. Through exposure of the community to the many backgrounds, passions, and beliefs present on campus, we strive to increase future engagement with and support for all cultures.
Free food and free admission, so please come and join us!
