The 22nd annual Latinx Youth Summit will be held on October 30th, 2020.
We are beyond excited to join in community this October with Latinx high school students across Iowa to engage in a day of learning, growth, and empowerment! This year’s theme is “envisioning a better tomorrow”, and we are thrilled to see what sessions and lessons arise around this topic.
As the COVID-19 pandemic carries on, we want to be transparent in that we will not be able to hold LYS in person this year and will instead be shifting to a virtual format. The safety and health of Iowan counselors, teachers, students, and university staff is our #1 priority and we take that responsibility very seriously. We also recognize that many schools will face decreased funding – and thus less capacity to attend – this year, and we want to continue to make this event safe and accessible for all. We appreciate your understanding and we look forward to seeing each other in person next year.
Our planning team is still determining the specifics of this virtual format and has been updating our plans as the public health emergency situation develops. We will post updates on this website as they become available. In the meantime, please contact Sarah Lambert (they/them), LYS co-Chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
We are sad that we won't be able to celebrate in Iowa City this year, but Latinxs are a resilient community who understand the importance of protecting and supporting each other. We can't wait to learn together in person in 2021!
For many years we have partnered with the Latinx Excellence in the Midwest Conference to attract professionals and talent across Iowa. The 2019 Latinx Excellence in the Midwest Conference took place on October 12th, 2019 and was a phenomenal event! We look forward to sharing more information regarding the 2020 Conference soon. For more information, please visit the conference website.
