We are writing to provide an update on the search for a new associate vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion (AVP for DEI).
As chairs of the search committee, we met this week with President Harreld and Interim Provost Kregel who shared with us their commitment to taking necessary steps to ensure our next leader is successful.
As you probably know the position of AVP for DEI currently reports to the Provost but will have a seat on the president’s cabinet. We considered whether to change the reporting structure, having the position report directly to the president, but this change would require us to rewrite the job description and restart the search.
We determined that such a delay is not acceptable. We are very encouraged by the existing pool of candidates and in return their interest in the university.
We are pleased to report that the university will be moving forward quickly with the naming of an interim AVP for DEI. This is an important step in making progress on our action plan and improving collaboration in order to improve our campus climate.
