Section 503/VEVRAA Compliance

To ensure compliance with the revised regulations on Section 503 and VEVRAA, the university has modified its self-identification forms for job applicants. Questions related to the new forms may be directed to EOD (

a.       Pre-Offer Self-Identification Forms

The online self-identification form used by job applicants applying to positions advertised with a Requisition (e.g., faculty, P&S, Merit positions) within Jobs@UIOWA has been updated to allow the opportunity to self-identify as an individual with a disability or as a protected veteran. Per the regulations, this information is to be kept in a confidential data file. EOD will use the data to prepare reports for the university’s Affirmative Action Plan; data pertaining to individual applicants may not be disclosed to search committees or departments.

b.      Post-Offer Self-Identification Forms

Per the federal regulations, the university must allow selected candidates another opportunity to voluntarily self-identify as an individual with a disability or a protected veteran.

1.       Positions advertised with a Requisition on Jobs@UIOWA and written offer letter sent

IM-HR has added a feature within Jobs@UIOWA to allow selected candidates the opportunity to self-identify at the post-offer stage. The Compensation & Classification unit has updated the template offer letters on its website and the Provost’s Office has updated the template for offers to faculty members. EOD will alert you once all the other template offer letters have been modified. Offer letters must include the designated link to Jobs@UIOWA where selected candidates may go to complete the optional self-identification form. Please ensure you include the following paragraph in your written offer letters to selected candidates who applied through Jobs@UIOWA:

As required by federal contracting regulations, the University of Iowa must provide persons who have been extended a job offer the opportunity to self-identify as a protected veteran and/or as an individual with a disability.  This information is used to monitor and report on the university’s equal employment opportunity/affirmative action programs. Submission of this information is voluntary and refusal to provide it will not subject you to any adverse treatment. Please take a moment to visit the following website ( and complete the voluntary self-identification form. If you prefer to complete the form by mail, please contact the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (email: or phone: 319-335-0705).

2.       Positions advertised with a Requisition on Jobs@UIOWA and verbal offer declined

If the selected candidate declines a position via a verbal offer, the university is still obliged to invite the candidate to complete the post-offer self-identification form. EOD and IM-HR are working on a solution to allow you to send the link to the post-offer self-identification form. Stay tuned for more information on this process.

3.       Positions advertised with a Temporary/Other Job Posting on Jobs@UIOWA

We are still working on a solution to provide the pre-offer and post-offer self-identification forms to applicants who apply directly to departments for temporary and other positions. We will notify you once a solution has been established.
