Expanded Access to the Online Courses:
Preventing Harassment on Campus- Supervisory and Non-Supervisory Faculty and Staff
2nd Edition- 2015-2017 and the Project to Select a New Courseware Vendor for these Classes
1. Expanded Access to the Online Harassment Prevention Courses:
In response to requests from several colleges and divisions, and at the request of EOD, ITS has expanded access to these online Harassment Prevention (HP) courses to all University of Iowa employees, regardless of their percentage of time or type of appointment.
Please note that there has been no change to the university’s educational requirements under the Sexual Harassment Policy. Rather, several colleges and divisions have elected to require more of their employees to complete harassment prevention training than what is required under current university policy.
Please ensure that your new hires receive instructions in their offer letters on how to access the instructor-led and/or online courses. The template offer letters provided by University Human Resources on their website include the standard language on “Harassment Prevention Training” for Merit, P&S, SEIU, research intern, and specified term appointments. The Office of the Provost’s website
Provides guidance for faculty offer letters. The Graduate College’s website provides guidelines and template offer letters for postdoctoral scholar appointments. Appointment letter templates for teaching assistants are typically available from your collegiate dean’s office/website.
Detailed information about the Harassment Prevention courses is available on EOD’s website at: https://diversity.uiowa.edu/programs/sexual-harassment-prevention-education
2. Update on the Project to Select a New Courseware Vendor for HP Online Classes
As many of you know, our office in partnership with several UI offices representing faculty and staff across campus, has been participating on a joint RFP with Iowa State and UNI to select a new courseware vendor for the online harassment prevention courses. We are nearly ready to sign an agreement with the new vendor and to prepare to rollout the new online courseware. Purchasing is completing negotiations with the selected vendor so I am not able to share the name of the new software vendor at this time. We do anticipate being able to rollout the new program during the fall semester of 2017.
The fee structure with the new vendor will allow us to offer the program to the entire population of UI employees for one set fee, whereas with our current vendor, we are charged based upon the number of employees who access the courses. If your college/division is considering expanding the education requirement beyond what is covered under current UI policy, would you please contact me so we can discuss the timing of that expansion.
Please email email@example.com with any questions/concerns you may have and thank you, as always, for your assistance in ensuring a welcoming and inclusive campus environment for all.
