Harrison Freund, a sophomore computer engineering student at the University of Iowa, wanted to build a community for LGBTQ students interested in STEM fields. He is preparing to apply for official student organization status and accreditation with oSTEM, a national LGBTQ STEM organization.
Last fall, “Black Art; Real Stories,” a publication led by University of Iowa students, published its first print issue and launched its website to showcase the writing of black undergraduates.
For 16 years, the Iowa Biosciences Academy has helped UI undergraduates from groups underrepresented in the sciences navigate their academic paths, including paid research work with faculty mentors, career counseling, and help with graduate school applications.
To help the Iowa ROTC Detachment celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, the UI Army ROTC cadre conducted a rappelling demonstration in Carver-Hawkeye Arena during the UI wrestling meet on Feb. 5.
