UI Student Veteran and Veterans Association President Awarded Sports Clips Haircuts/VFW Scholarship
University of Iowa student, Tiffany Baker-Strothkamp, has been awarded a $10,000 Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship. Tiffany is a second year student in the Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling through the College of Education. Her research interest is transitioning veterans and has already presented conceptual research at the National Conference for the National Council on Rehabilitation Education. Tiffany was also recently elected as President of the University of Iowa Veteran Association.
Before coming to the University of Iowa, Tiffany spent just under 10 years in the United States Army as an Automated Logistics Specialist. She completed multiple combat tours to Afghanistan before being medically retired. She earned an AAS from Barton County Community College and a BMD from the University of Texas at El Paso.
The VFW’s Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship’s purpose is to assist those who have served our country transition back to civilian life and ease the stress of college tuition. Nationwide the scholarship program has awarded more than $4.1 million in scholarships to 943 military and student Veterans. This year more than $550,000 will now enable 118 student veterans to continue their higher education classes this spring semester.
