Latina/o Graduate Student Association

The purpose of the Latina/o Graduate Student Association (LGSA) is three-fold: a) to encourage professional collaboration and professional development of Latina/o graduate students; b) to facilitate a community of social and cultural support for Latina/o graduate students across departments at the University of Iowa; and c) to provide a vehicle for Latina/o graduate students to support the University of Iowa and surrounding communities, particularly the needs of the Latina/o community.

In other words, our mission is to support one another both in and out of the classroom. Another important goal of our organization is to build lasting friendships by sharing and enjoying each others’ cultures over good food, drinks, and music! We also openly welcome and encourage graduate students interested in the Latina/o culture to join or to inquire about LGSA!

LGSA’s current co-presidents are Richard Barajas (richard-barajas@uiowa.edu) and Ginna Moreano (ginna-moreano@uiowa.edu). If you would like to learn more about upcoming LGSA events and/or be in touch with all members, please email Richard Barajas to be added to the LGSA LISTSERV. Also, feel free to join our open LGSA Facebook group: "LGSA (Latina/o Graduate Student Association").
