Latinx Graduate Student Association

The purpose of the Latinx Graduate Student Association (LGSA) is three-fold: a) to encourage professional collaboration and professional development of Latinx graduate students; b) to facilitate a community of social and cultural support for Latinx graduate students across departments at the University of Iowa; and c) to provide a vehicle for Latinx graduate students to support the University of Iowa and surrounding communities, particularly the needs of the Latinx community.

In other words, our mission is to support one another both in and out of the classroom. Another important goal of our organization is to build lasting friendships by sharing and enjoying each others’ cultures over good food, drinks, and music! We also openly welcome and encourage graduate students interested in the Latinx culture to join or to inquire about LGSA!

LGSA’s current co-presidents are Diana Galvez ( and Miriam Velez-Bermudez (, ), and the secretary/treasurer is Juan Gudino ( If you would like to learn more about upcoming LGSA events and/or be in touch with all members, please email the co-chairs to be added to the LGSA LISTSERV. Also, feel free to join our open LGSA Facebook group: "LGSA (Latinx Graduate Student Association").
