Spectrum UI (formerly GLBTAU) is the longest running and first established LGBT university organization in the US. Spectrum UI is a student-run organization that strives to provide a safe space for all members of the university community to explore aspects of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression in a welcome and accepting atmosphere, regardless of race/ethnicity, age, orientation, or background. Spectrum UI is committed to providing information and education that enhances the educational experience and overall quality of student life on the University of Iowa campus. Spectrum UI is working to promote advocacy, support, visibility, and diversity through events, education, and activism. In pursuing this mission, Spectrum UI strives to promote full inclusion of LGBT persons and their allies at the University of Iowa and to eliminate homophobia, heterosexism, transphobia, and sexism on our campus.
GLBTAU gathers every Wednesday at the IMU or LGBT Resource Center from 7 - 9 p.m. (we will announce the location each week for the following week).
