Dr. Sherry Kay Watt, Associate Professor in the College of Education, Educational Policy and Leadership Studies has been appointed as the Chief Diversity Office inaugural Faculty Fellow. Watt joined the University of Iowa faculty in 2000, and holds a PH.D. and M.S. in Counselor Education from North Carolina State University, and a B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has published an presented extensively on multicultural initiatives, privileged identity and social justice, difficult cross-racial and cross-cultural dialogues, and creating inclusive communities.
Within the Chief Diversity Office, Watt will be working on multiple projects that include: facilitating a research team of professional staff and students using training models developed through her research; incorporating evaluative methods for trainings and other initiatives; helping to guide the university's participation in the statewide K-12 Gear Up program; and setting criteria for future faculty fellows.
