There are more than 2,400 veterans, dependents, and active-duty members attending the University of Iowa during any given term, and it is the purpose of the Military and Veteran Student Services Office to provide all of those students with the resources, guidance and assistance they need to be successful Hawkeyes. There are more than half-a-dozen educational assistance programs funded through the Veterans Administration and while a majority of our veterans are receiving educational benefits from the VA, we also serve a large and growing population of Veterans who do not receive benefits but are continuing their education.

The purpose of our office is to not only help Veteran and military-affiliated students adjust to life at a large public university, but to also assist them in becoming active and contributing members of the general campus population. While we understand and are prepared to provide the complex and diverse services needed by some of our returning veterans, we also realize that the vast majority of veterans attending UI excel and thrive in the university setting. We see it as our charge to engage our entire population and provide them with the resources they need to achieve unbridled success in any endeavor – be it academic, professional or personal. Here at the University of Iowa, we truly understand what it is like to serve and continue to honor that commitment every day.
