About the Division
The Division of Access, Opportunity, and Diversity works to maintain a productive and welcoming campus culture where everyone can contribute, find community, and work toward finding common ground. We do this through providing campus wide support through communications, recruitment, retention, accreditation, and civil rights compliance for all Hawkeyes.
Our Work
The work of the office is rooted in mastering three core elements:
- Creation of a culture where all people can be productive and contribute.
- Cultivation of communities that are open and welcoming to all.
- Working with people to find common ground.
The central office and the University of Iowa strives to accomplish the following:
- Provide an education to students, supporting their aspirations in their careers and lives.
- Serve as a hub of services for our campus partners to meet accreditation standards and compliance with Federal and State of Iowa laws.
- Develop and hone skills to manage differences.
- Support students and their success by creating a community on which they can rely.
- Meet the needs of Iowans through research, teaching, and public service.
Meet the Team
Pillars of Campus Support
- The division provides a structured program to assist students with academic support, skill-building, navigating campus life mentoring, and tutoring.
- The division offers customized, voluntary professional development to UI faculty and staff to enhance cultural competency as requested by campus partners to meet accreditation requirements.
- The division supports campus partners compliance with Federal and State laws, IU policies and procedures (including Title IX, ADA, Title VII, Cleary Act, etc.).
- The division provides support and assistance to understand and build organization culture with campus partners through consultation and data analytics.
- The division providers support of centralized messaging themes, brand and editorial recommendations, and amplification of college/unit narratives supporting a welcoming and respectful environment.
