The Division for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion provides a number of opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to increase their cultural knowledge and skills for contributing to a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable campus community. On this page, you'll find links to our workshops and initiatives, as well as information about other relevant training opportunities on campus.
If you would like to request a training for your unit or organization, please fill out our service request form.
Every academic year, the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion provides professional development opportunities through Learning and Development. The training sessions could be connected to a development series, such as Supervising at Iowa or the Advanced Management Series. Sessions could be part of campus-wide certificate programs like Building University of Iowa Leadership for Diversity or Building Our Global Community from International Student and Scholar Services. Feel free to check out training offerings through Learning and Development's "My Training" portal in Employee Self-Service.
If you are a student or community member and wish to attend any of the training sessions provided, feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org (link sends e-mail) to ask about how you can get involved!
If you would like to request a training, speaker, or panelist for your college, department, or area, please complete the Service Request Form (link is external). Requests are reviewed bi-weekly and are fulfilled on a first-come, first-serve basis. As the training team has limited capacity to support the numerous training requests each year, please allow for ample time to plan for your service.
Coaching is a structured, non-judgmental, motivational resource that allows individuals to work one-on-one with a trained Diversity Resources member to set personal goals, synthesize training information, and problem-solve specific issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Participants will be able to have up to three 45-minute sessions. Anyone currently enrolled in the BUILD certificate program is able to access the coaching program. If you are new to BUILD, or are considering participating, we encourage completing the program with a coach by your side!
Inquiries about the program or to get connected to a coach, please email email@example.com (link sends e-mail).
Meet Ups are a quarterly opportunity for BUILD certificate recipients to continue conversations, share learning, and engage in collective problem-solving with other BUILD certificate recipients. Sessions are designed to address real-time issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in your workplaces, home, or in nation. This structure allows for each session to connect to the specific needs or questions of the participants.

Track your participation and complete all fields for each in the BUILD Passport Tracking Form.
Submit your passport after completing each level.
Receive your BUILD Passport medallion via campus mail.
Add it to the BUILD placard you received at the core course. (Placards can also be picked up at 2750 UCC, by appointment only.)
Which activities qualify and which do not?
All activities connected to diversity and inclusion, social justice, and/or human rights will be considered with the following limitations:
BUILD courses or other individual courses within a series or certificate program do not qualify.
