We provide leadership and resources to ensure all Hawkeyes become culturally competent to succeed in a global society and practice their right to free expression while assisting to maintain the institutions compliance with laws and accreditation criteria, as articulated in the University of Iowa's strategic plan.

The mission of the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion includes supporting the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of the institution in with the the following:

The work of the office is rooted in mastering three core elements:

  • Creation of a culture where all people can be productive and contribute.
  • Cultivation of communities that are open and welcoming to all. 
  • Working with people to find common ground.

The central office and the University of Iowa strives to accomplish the following:

  • Provide an education to students, supporting their aspirations in their careers and lives.
  • Develop and hone skills to manage differences.
  • Support students and their success by creating a community on which they can rely.
  • Meet the needs of Iowans through research, teaching, and public service.
  • The Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion consists of two units: The Office of Civil Rights Compliance (OCRC) and the Office of Access and Support (OAS).
