On the morning of Oct. 14, 2020, the University of Iowa administration was made aware of a potentially offensive chalking written on the T. Anne Cleary Walkway.

This chalking does not represent the views of the University of Iowa and is not aligned with our institutional values.

The University of Iowa will not tolerate anything but an inclusive campus for people of all backgrounds, regardless of race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, country of origin, or associational preferences. Behavior, such as offensive chalking, that harms any member of our community is taken very seriously. In these times, we acknowledge that tensions are high, and that people have the right to share their opinions, but we also acknowledge that some opinions are more harmful than others. We remain committed to having dialogues and engaging in civil discourse about potentially controversial opinions while being respectful of all in our community.
