The Division of Diversity Equity and Inclusion is excited to celebrate an incredible individual or organization here at the University of Iowa. We are soliciting nominations for the 2024 Diane L. Finnerty Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Legacy Award.

The Diane L. Finnerty Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Legacy Award is designed to recognize members of the UI campus community who have played an integral role in creating positive institutional change related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. These members have partnered with other diversity, equity, and inclusion practitioners to implement large-scale strategies to create a more diverse campus community, promote inclusive excellence, and sustain equitable practices.

This award will be presented at the Institutional Award Ceremony on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the Hancher Auditorium.  There will be a 5:00 pm reception with the ceremony scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm.

Nomination criteria and eligibility are as follows:

The recipients of this award are affecting measurable, substantial action to create diversity, equity, and inclusion-related change at an institutional level. Recipient will have:

  • Been a critical voice in the design, implementation, and/or communication of diversity, equity, and inclusion institutional change.
  • Partnered closely with other groups and stakeholders to have made a significant and measurable impact in advancing diversity equity and inclusion initiatives leading to positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrated innovative approaches to addressing diversity equity and inclusion challenges and implementing effective strategies for creating a more inclusive and equitable environment.
  • Illustrated sustainable institutional strategies and initiatives for positive transformation.
Nomination and Selection Process:

All campus partners working closely with collaborators and DEI practitioners may be considered applicants for the process. The Associate Vice President and Executive Officer for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion along with the DDEI directors will review and consider recipients connected to the outlined criteria. One individual or organization will be selected to receive the award. On occasion when the implementation has been done with multiple partnerships, all individuals can be recipients. No individual can win this award more than once. Current DDEI employees are not eligible to receive this award.
