BMindful is an initiative that seeks to meet the needs of diverse communities by providing event and conference planners with the dates of holy days of major religious faiths for five years into the future. By providing these dates in advance, BMindful seeks to help planners avoid those dates when scheduling events. This introductory workshop will provide a framework for understanding diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values of the university. Participants will explore and reflect on the role of identity in our personal and professional experiences. This session will also outline relevant resources and opportunities on campus. As part of the BUILD initiative, this session should be taken first.  

This interactive workshop features an overview of trans students' experiences on college campuses, with a focus on strengthening our ability to be more effective allies to this community. Previous participation in LGTBQ Safe Zone Phase I and Phase II is encouraged. Note: Individuals who complete or have completed LGBTQ Safe Zone workshops may obtain credit towards the Building University of Iowa Leadership for Diversity (BUILD) certificate.

Cultural Intelligence describes your capacity to relate and work effectively across different identity groups and cultures. In this session, participants will discuss and define race and the levels of racism and review research on how racism is perpetuated in today's society. We will also explore how our experience(s) influence our perceptions of others and develop strategies to support racial healing and racial equity.

This session introduces basic LGBTQ terms and concepts, helps participants develop an appreciation for the experiences of the LGBTQ people, and brings an overall awareness of LGBTQ issues.
